I have read two (2) romance books and I HATED the first one. The second I gave a 3.5/5 stars.
I want to read more romance books that have lots of yearning, a ladle — or even a bucket-load — of angst along the way. Hurtcomfort is my favourite thing ever!
I hate Spanish Love Deception SO, SO much. I hated the main character, she infuriated me. I hated the male love interest and the book was so tasteless at times? I am not looking for books like this where the main character is just…stupid. I'm sorry if you come across this post and really liked SLD, I just– I couldn't.
Okay Days, the second romance book I read, was more my vibe but there were a few issues that were hard to ignore but it was readable!
I read mostly fantasy and fiction (note: not romantasy, but I would be open to it if the romance was part of the sub-plot)
I do not mind sm*t at all but it does need to feel earned, you know? I love some classic tropes if they're written in well!

God yes SLD was absolutely brutal, I DNF’d that one so hard. If you liked the angst vibes from Okay Days you might want to check out Hating Game or Beach Read – both have that earned tension buildup without making you want to throw your phone at the wall
Also maybe try some Mariana Zapata if you can handle slow burn, her stuff is like 80% yearning and actually has characters with functioning brain cells
