Hi everyone!
I’m in a huuuuuge reading slump and can’t seem to be able to get out of it.
I’d love some suggestions of books that have hooked you from the first page. Ideally not fantasy or romantasy as I seem to have oversaturated on the genre. Otherwise, I’m easy on the genre so have at it.
Thank yoooooou!

The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides
Thrawn by Timothy Zahn(the 2017 one) it being Star Wars makes it easy because most people already have some understanding of the universe so you don’t have to worry about intense world building(and Thrawn is dope as fuck)
Project Hail Mary..
Try *Annihilation* by Jeff VanderMeer. It has some fantastical elements, but it’s more along the lines of a combo sci-fi/psychological thriller vibe with a touch of horror (the unsettling always-being-watched kind, rather than super violent or gory or ghosty or anything like that).
Best part is that it’s short. My copy is like 200 pages so it’s not a gigantic investment.
I found that Dark Matter by Blake Crouch did the job of pulling me out of a reading slump; quite fast paced and very entertaining!
Red sister. Hooked after one line
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. I’m currently 100 pages in on day 2 of reading. Didn’t think I’d be that into it but the narrative voice is really strong and engaging!
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, absolutely love Douglas Adams’ style read the first 3 books of the series in 2 ish days i think. Also a doctor who book called “Shada” which was gifted to me by a close friend, also written by douglas adams
Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa, hooked on page one, two sittings to finish. About a Palestinian women reflecting on her life from solitary confinement. My fav read from 2025.
