Brazilian law states that book-reading inmates can cut their sentences by four days for each title read. On Thursday, a supreme court judge authorised the disgraced former president, Bolsonaro, to take part in the scheme after a request from his legal team.

    1. Do they have to take a test on it or do a book report to prove they read it?

Find the shortest books you can, read one a day, sentence reduced 4 years in one year.

    2. I wouldn’t worry about Bolsonaro getting out early unless the prison library has coloring books.

Does this law apply to violent criminals? because that’s fucking ridiculous. Nay, offensive.

    4. I would love for a program like this to exist in the U.S. A way for prisoners to not only reduce their sentence, but actively learn. The military has reading lists that include things like Ender’s Game, and there’s very thought-provoking works like Dune and 1984. There’s a lot of good works out there that could be inspirational to the right person, and the incentive could be the exposure needed for that one prisoner to want to change. I would see more positives for the program than negatives.

      Maybe after 2028 but still.

    5. I do believe reading can help rehabilitation and am not opposed to programs like this. As long as it has guard rails to make sure books are being read and it is limited on days. Also not everyone should be eligible.

This would worry me if he knew how to read.

He never has read a book in his whole life. And I’m also including children’s books.

At best, we were going to see some bullshit attempt at reducing his sentence that will be investigated to hell and back and shut down.

The only thing Bolsonaro and his defense is doing is making him into a complete clown. History books were already not going to look fondly on him, but now we have plenty of display of his cowardice and how pathetic he always was.

    7. If Bolsonaro could read books he maybe could have made a proper coup. But he is so dumb he cant read a pre school level book and definitely cant make a coup happen lol

One additional note: Bolsonaro denied the benefit because, according to him, he never reads books or newspapers, which is a shame; it would have been funny if he had to write a review. I’m still here.

    9. Growing up, I knew a kid that could devour a novel a day. It’s funny to think that he’d be about to serve a 5 year sentence in 1 year.

He already declared “i won’t read any books” last week (while asking for sentence reduction,  mind you lmao) so i think he’s not in danger of learning anything.
