Hi, everyone. My son is entering the stage where is starting to read longer books and it has been fun seeing him grow into his love of reading. We have started a mini book club reading books together and we just finished the first Harry Potter book and plan to continue the series.

My question is, as he grows, what are some books you have read that really highlight and show positive masculinity. My classic example is from my favorite books, Aragorn from Lord of the Rings. He is kind, gentle, wise, and also a bad ass warrior.

It does not need to be fiction or even teen level, as I’d love to have a list in my back pocket as he grows up and expands his literary capabilities. My goal is as his father, for us to be able to read and when we talk about them, be able to have conversations where I can slip in things I really admire about these characters, that will hopefully resonate with my son because they are already characters he admires.

Again, to Aragorn, when we read Lord of Rings, and he gets excited about Aragorn hacking down foes at the Black Gate, I want to be able to say Heck Yeah! That was awesome! And also, I love how as a king after the battle of Minas Tirith he healed and cares for the wounded.

TLDR: What are your favorite examples of positive masculinity in literature?
