What fiction book is your go to recommendation? Preferably not classics and not recently popular

I am trying to build a read-list for the year. The problem is my friends usually recommend books that they know I like but end up getting 'same kind' of books. Last couple of years, you guys here have given me book recommendations some of which I would never have come across and I am grateful for that. Examples- Lonesome Dove, A Psalm for the Wild Built, Johhny got his gun, Oryx and Crake, the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime and many more. Could you please do me a solid and suggest your go to recommendation for fiction books?
