Recently, I’ve been trying to brunch out and I’ve read a lot of non-fiction, classics, and just stuff that I don’t normally read. I love to read a lot of fantasy in sci-fi so I’m now in the mood for something that is a little bit more short and fun and just a really easy read. Anybody have any good recommendations? I will say I’ve read most of the popular things that gets recommended on the sub Reddit like dungeon crawler Carl ,Brandon Sanderson and others. Thanks in advance.

Sangu Mandanna’s duology
I read Satoshi Yagisawa’s “Days at the Torunka Cafe” last weekend and it was one of the sweetest slice-of-life books I’ve ever enjoyed. Definitely worth checking out if you just need something short and good for the soul.
I really like Kevin Wilson’s books for something easy and a bit quirky.
Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz. Short, quick read and incredibly enjoyable (with some moments that are just beautifully adorable). One of my top 3 books I read last year.
Penric’s Demon by Lois McMaster Bujold. A novella about a young man who accidentally gets possessed by a female demon, which automatically makes him a cleric of sorts. Very well written — character development is one of LMB’s many strengths. It stands alone, but if you like it, there are 16 or 17 more mostly short books in the series.

You might enjoy Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, a whimsical, funny, quirky, somewhat philosophical novel that’s a lot of fun, with a bit of magical realism/fantasy into the bargain.
For a fast-paced standalone novel that’s a wild ride and I found to be a ton of fun, while being really unique and related to my ‘fantasy’ interests, check out The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins.
It’s a series, but the books are light, fun, and fast-paced, so you might enjoy checking out the Cradle series by Will Wight, starting with Unsouled. The audiobooks are particularly great, would highly recommend, narrated by Travis Baldree. It’s mostly fantasy, with a bit of sort of ‘sci-fi’ mixed in, and a comfy, shonen vibe, constantly creative world building, and a lovable cast of characters.
The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe by Kij Johnson is fantastic and short.
