With everything going on in the Middle East right now, I’m somewhat ashamed to admit I know next to nothing about these countries histories beyond the basics. I’d like to get a clearer understanding of the Middle East so I can understand the current conflicts there better.
I recently read Henry Kissinger’s Diplomacy and it really opened my eyes about European and American History. I’m hoping for a similar style read – Covering a long period of history in the Middle East; major figures, conflicts, etc in a detailed, objective and digestible manner that paints a picture of how we got from ancient history to today.
I know it’s a tough ask, and I’m not even sure such a book exists. I hardly trust Google to recommend good books these days. Figured I’d come to Reddit.
Any recommendations would be appreciated🙏
Sincerely,
A curious American who was never properly taught about the Middle East in school (surprise surprise)
