For someone reason where I live books are very expensive, and used books are sold in a specific place that's way too far for me to travel to.
I'm dealing with a lot at the moment looking for a new job after losing my old one, and besides paying for rent – food – gas – utilities from my savings from my prior job, I can't afford paying for expensive books on top of that. I really want to read at night to escape into worlds of fiction and unforgettable characters and scenery.
I tried to read digitally off my laptop today, I didn't know reading off a screen was this hard but it was horrible and my eyes could barely focus on the lines
Genres I enjoy are fiction, history, fantasy, dystopian.
I love pirate stories and magic and fairytales-for-adults books, I love post apocalyptic
I enjoyed things like The Song of Achilles, 1984, Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe, Demian – Hermann Hesse, Kafka on the shore, Harry Potter, A Tale of Two cities, The prisoner of Zenda, Peter Pan, and the world setting of A Darker Shade of Magic minus the love interest character
Please help
Edit: Thank you guys so much for your support 🙂 I don’t feel comfortable saying where I am from but there really are ZERO public libraries, even the concept of them makes no sense to whoever I ask, so you all should definitely appreciate them more wherever you guys live.
My final decision is that I have decided that since ebooks are infinitely cheaper, I will just try to ask my brother or my close friends to loan me money to buy a *paperback Kindle*!
Believe it or not, I found it unbelievable myself, there are books sold in these bookstores that are even more expensive than the whole kindle! They’re not considered casual reads but the fact that a bunch of paper is that expensive is wild to me.
Thank you so much guys! Just reading through your comments made me go from thinking ‘wow I am so poor now that I can’t afford a book’ to realizing that not all countries consider reading an expensive hobby and now I realize it’s not all my fault 🙂 thanks
