This is my second year doing Storygraph's Read the World Challenge and I've discovered some really interesting books because of it. But finding a book by a Croatian author was a huge challenge. I spent a couple of hours first trying to find a book that was available through my library and then just trying to find one available for free online. I finally got a suggestion from ChatGPT for a book of Croation Fairy Tales available through Project Gutenberg.
I was wondering if anyone else was successful finding anything from Croatia. I'm not sure why it's so hard to find anything by Croatian authors.

I found “The Museum of Extraordinary Things” on my library’s app but then realized that was just set in Croatia, not actually by a Croatian author lmao. Ended up going with some short stories by Dubravka Ugrešić that were translated into English – her stuff is pretty solid if you can track it down
Dark Mother Earth by Kristian Novak
I’m also probably going to read the fairytales as I already read Dark Mother Earth a couple of years ago. What are you reading for Iraq?
I loved Slanting Towards the Sea by Lidija Hilje! She’s Croatian and the book is set in Croatia too.
It might be worth it to check out the Read the World series on r/bookclub. I don’t know if they’ve done Croatia yet but if so there will be a nomination post with suggestions.
[Love Novel by Ivana Sajko](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/b0573522-ad3d-4022-91f7-3cca6de82b34) could be an option.
