My apologies for the long paragraphs, but I believe knowing the reasons why I’m asking is important (at least in my point of view).

I’ve always been someone with a short attention spam. Since I was a kid it was really hard for me to focus on things, especially books. I don’t have a single one of the books my parents bought me in my childhood read. But in the contrast, since I was hitting puberty I suddenly had this urge of write. Dreams, daydreams, sudden ideas came to me and I wanted to express them in words. I tried doing it for some time and I was actually pretty good on portraying emotions, environments, etc into words. I did mini stories or just random things that my school asked me to do. (Just to clarify, due to school I was obligated to read and I believe that this is where I got that “technique”, meaning I had examples for my writing “against my will” lol 😭)

Now I’ve grown up, an due to social media and technology taking over our daily basis, my attention span has gotten worse (taking accountability on it tho, not only blaming tech😭).

Not long ago I finally decided to do a comeback and write my first ever novel. Since a very long time ago I was full of ideas that were only that: ideas. But I chose one and started writing. The problem is, I don’t have the literary language to do so anymore. I’m a literal burden to doomscrolling and fast and short information (social media, AI, etc.). I got a moment of revelation (lol) and decided to -at least- try and make my brain have a better time while thinking. So I decided to start reading. I chose books that had similar themes to my novel and ended up with writers like: Kafka, Dostoievsky, Camus. From what I read I’m really enjoying it, and I’m very interested in reading even more.

The reason why I tell y’all this and not just “I want more books to read, this is what I’ve read:…” is because I firmly believe that background and a picture of WHY I’m asking it, helps to get the suggestions to be more personalized.

I’m not asking for books exactly like the ones I told, because for me to have a better vocabulary while writing is by getting “out of the bubble”, in this case: getting out of the genre. Thank you 🫶🏻
