Hello! I've recently been on a binge of videos about historical makeup and skincare, and I've been wanting to read a couple books on the subject. I don't read too much non-fiction, so I'm hoping that by reading about something I'm interested in, I'll end up reading more of the genre.
I'm specifically looking for books that talk about:
- The dangers of cosmetics in the past, like the use of lead in Elizabethan makeup foundation
- How makeup affects/reflects society
- What cultures used what "products" (ex. rice water as shampoo in Ancient China or dried poppy petals as lipstick/blush in Morocco)
- Makeup styles throughout history
I already own a copy of Eyeliner: A Cultural History by Zahra Hankir, but haven't read it yet. I'm fine with books that talk about only specific cultures/products, but also ones that give a general overview throughout history. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
