Second term of uni + super cold and dark where I live has left me in a general slump, but especially a reading slump. Feels like too much effort, but I hate feeling that way. Last night, I finished "The Summit" by Pat Falvey after ripping through it in four days. That's the only book I've finished this year. I picked back up Holly Jackson's "Not quite dead yet" and only made it a chapter before going back to social media :(. I've abandoned like five books this year already because I just can't get through them. Would love some suggestions to drag me out of this slump!
I read a lot of dystopian, sci, realistic fiction, and historical fiction.
Some of my favorite recent ish books:
– The first thing about you and Diet soda club, both by Chaz Hayden.
– The darkest minds series by Alexandra Bracken
– This is not the end by Chandler Baker
– The end of days and regenesis, both by Eric Walters (adored these, wish he'd continued the series)
– Lock in and Head on by John Scalzi (also liked another one of his books, the Kaiju preservation society a little while ago, haven't been able to get into his other ones yet unfortunately. Not the right ones to pull me out of this slump)
– Not if I save you first by Ally Carter
– The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynne Barnes (do not suggest inheritance games, I've read as far into that series as I can tolerate)
– And a lot of books on 9/11 (United we stand by Eric Walters, We all fall down: the true story of the 9/11 surfer, All we have left by Wendy Mills, Ground Zero by Andy Gratz)
I guess the way I'd sum it all up is if it's fiction, I prefer fast paced. But I'm also very interested in true stories of highly unlikely survival (the k2 disaster, 9/11, Everest, titanic, are ones that come to mind which I've read a lot about) or fictional stories based around those crazy events.
I will love you all forever if you can help me get out of this slump, I'm so frustrated at myself for not liking the books I've tried rn, but it just ain't working.
