I’m a bit of a newer reader. Got a job where the only thing I can really do to pass the time is read. That being said, I am an avid visual novel fan, and there’s some that really sank their claws into me that I want similar experiences to. So any suggestions similar to them are welcome.
-AI the Somnium Files / Nirvana Initiative. Essentially high concept sci-fi used in a more mundane manner like murder mysteries. Preferably with humor and a focus on the characters over the sci-fi world itself.
-Heart of the Woods and Please Be Happy. Queer romances with light fantasy elements. Usually cozy, but not afraid to be dark and emotional if it means hooking the audience on the characters and raising the stakes.
-Ace Attorney. Basically murder mystery, but with a humorous / satirical undertone. Honestly, I could also use the Knives Out movies as examples, but those aren’t visual novels. You get the point though.
-Slay the Princess. Existential, gorgeous, horrifying, witty, emotional, whatever. Just tried to capture every emotion under the sun with a simple and easy to follow premise.
