I am a novice reader and have read Sidney Sheldon, Agatha Christie, Dan brown, Jeffery Archer, JK Rowling and more recently the three body problem series.

From what you can see these books are more plot driven / fast paced and I want to read more character driven / classic books. I tried reading One hundred years of solitude and the bell jar and even though I forced my self to these books, I truly didn't enjoy them. But, I would still want to try and would want to evolve my reading style.

I am eager to try books like Kafka on the shore or Lonesome Dove based on how much upvote/love they are given in this sub but also not sure if I will like them. Can you suggest few books that will help me make this transition?

Note: English is not my native language and I am not sure if classic is the right word to describe these books but hope I could get the point across.
