A more witty/comedic take on a curmudgeonly, misanthropic character who takes care of people like they Need to be, not how they Want to be. Deeply kind but never nice.
They don't have to be the POV but they do need to be one of the main characters. I don't want them to be beaten down without rising back up again before the end.
Age range and genre is completely up in the air, I'll be just as happy with MG or YA as an adult book. It can get emotionally heavy or violent, but the use of humor as a kind of weapon is required.
