I just recently finished Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson, and one of the more fascinating things I found about the novel involved the East Asian cultural influences on the world it takes place in. I'm looking for books with similar influences that incorporate similar settings.
I'd also like suggestions of books with characters similar to Yumi, as I really enjoyed her dynamic of exploring her freedom in Painter's world especially given how formal and intense her personality was in comparison to how lax and modern Painter's world was to hers.
