I read Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian a while ago, and I remember being so excited to read it. The premise is about a girl whose kingdom is stripped from her after a coup overtakes her throne. It has themes of rising to power and political intrigue. However, I was disappointed by the writing. It’s been a while since I’ve read it so I don’t remember too many details. I just remember it being very underwhelming, predictable, and formulaic. I’m looking for a similar book about a girl stripped of her power that has to start over again to regain it. I want high stakes, betrayal, and impossible decisions. I’m open to young adult or adult, but I’d prefer a book that doesn’t have a love triangle.
