My local game store has started a book club reading selections from "Appendix N," a section in AD&D's DMG listing inspiration for the creation of Dungeons and Dragons. It's been really fun!

At our most recent meeting, the group almost unanimously decided every once in a while (6 months or so? we haven't worked out any details) we need to read a less-stressful and less-problematic book to bring the energy up. While we are enjoying seeing where our favorite games come from, constant exposure to mid/early-20th century genre fiction and all its bigotry has been difficult for some of our members.

The group is open to and regularly discusses the shittier themes and tropes in these books; however, it's taxing to go from one book after another that openly and vehemently hates your personal autonomy.

TL;DR – Looking for genre fiction for our D&D book club with LESS overt and covert bigotry. Good-hearted, fun fantasy to break the tension of reading one misogynist, slave-holding, etc. protagonist after another.
