I need books of any genre that make you feel immense emotions, that every page makes you want to read more and more.

One of my favorite books from 2025 was The Antidote. It took me a long time to decide to read it because there was no summary that made it sound exciting. But it was *amazing.* It takes place during the Dust Bowl in a fictional town. There’s a prairie witch with a unique talent which ends up being an import allegory for our entire country and history. There’s a teenage female basketball player. There’s a traveling Black photographer. A scarecrow that’s probably not just a scarecrow. A real bad cop. And the most tender hearted grandpa that ever was. Magical realism, community, purpose, plot…it is so good.

    2. As someone who went to culinary school, I might be biased, but “Crying in H Mart” by Michelle Zauner hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a memoir about food, grief, and the connection between a daughter and her mother. I read it while traveling last summer and found myself sobbing at the airport. Every page feels so raw and honest.
