Maybe an odd request, but I’m interested in studying more the impacts of digital technologies and their impact as it relates to, what at least appears to be, a rise in conservative ideologies, predominantly as these technologies push young men farther to the right. If you’ve got any recommendations on this or related topics (like the “male loneliness epidemic”) I’d be happy to check out your suggestions. Thanks!

“The Radicalization Pipeline” by some tech journalists might be up your alley, also maybe check out “Angry White Men” by Michael Kimmel – dude breaks down the whole masculinity crisis thing pretty well. Algorithm stuff gets wild when you realize how much it feeds people exactly what keeps them clicking

    2. you want **The Secret of Our Success** by Joseph Henrich.

Henrich argues that humans survive by copying other people. We’re wired to ask “who should i copy?” and “what are most people doing?” but that same wiring makes us vulnerable when you can control what looks popular.

algorithms exploit this. they show you what gets engagement, and your brain reads that as “this must be important” because thats how cultural learning works. the conservatism pipeline youre describing is just mimetic cultural learning turbocharged by tech.

Henrich also gets into prestige bias, how we copy people we perceive as successful. algorithms manufacture prestige through follower counts and engagement metrics. so young men copy influencers the algorithm boosted, not because they actually have wisdom worth copying.

dense book but extremely relevant to what you’re asking about, especially if you are interested in the mechanisms behind these phenomena and how to look out for new cultural touchtones as they pop up, which they will…
