I recently finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and can’t stop thinking about the love story — especially Oscar’s earnest, obsessive, almost doomed way of loving across the whole novel.
I’m not just looking for books about immigrants or Dominican history (though that’s welcome), but specifically novels where:
- love is intense, unrequited, or tragic
- the protagonist loves deeply despite rejection or odds
- the romance feels emotionally devastating rather than cute
Any recommendations that capture that same ache?
