Hello, I have a $80 voucher for a bookstore that's going to expire shortly. I'm also about to be travelling overseas (25+ hours each way), so would like to use this time to get back into reading. I read an insane amount as a child/young teen but life happened and now I'm finding it hard anything that grabs me as an adult.
I recently re-read all of the Tomorrow, When The War Began series and The Ellie Chronicles by John Marsden over the span of about a month. I was going to grab Winter but the store doesn't have it in stock. When I was young I read books like the Redwall series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Land of Elyon, Beka Cooper Terrier, The Witches of Eileanan Dragonclaw etc.
I listened to the podcast/series Borrasca by Rebecca KlingelĀ and really enjoyed that, it was slow to start and I almost gave up but I'm really glad I persevered. I've tried reading Nevernight by Jay Kristoff as a friend suggested it and couldn't get past several chapters in.
I obviously lean towards fantasy, but I also enjoy thriller/mystery, horror stories. Occasionally I watch sci-fi things but usually when someone else suggests it. I'm not huge into romance, but open to it if the storyline/plot is gripping enough or it doesn't follow the usual tropes etc. Honestly open to any genres or suggestions of "I could not put this book down and now it's 3am". Thank you in advance!
