Hi! I'm working on my dissertation currently and I'm looking for really cringe-worthy memoirs and autobiographies by influencers and celebrities. The more pontificating and self-absorbed, the better. I'm trying to make a point that there are way too many books out there by YouTubers, TikTokers, and other new-age celebrities in their 20s and 30s where they try to make it sound like they're all-knowing and chock-full of wisdom due to their "job" (all thanks to the social media boom that has taken place in the last 15 years).

Basically it's one big postmodernist hate train on how stupid our world has become thanks to technology in the 21st century, and how these books have no point in existing other than to boost the subject's own ego and make another quick buck off their vulnerable followers. I'll be comparing them to actual good memoirs such as I Am Malala and I'm Glad My Mom Died, where 1. something objectively valuable is taken away from the story by the reader and 2. the gravity of the story that is being told warrants something like a memoir or autobiography being written by them in the first place.

    Thanks for any help!

    1. Not by an influencer because he was like 10yrs too early but there was this crazy motherfucker called Sebastian horsely who had a memoir. The opening sentence was something like “my mother wanted an abortion, my dad bought her the pills” and it kinda just rambles on from there.

    2. Anything Madi Prewett from the Bachelor has published… or really anything anyone from Bach Nation (I think hannah brown has written a book too)

Girl Wash Your Face (or whatever that book was called). I’ve also heard similar things about the new Elizabeth Gilbert book (All the Way to the River)

Matt Rife- you’re gonna love me (bad)

Jessica Sumpson’s Open Book is the best celeb autobiography I’ve ever read. Great snapshot of the time and made me think about bodyshaming.

    5. He’s not an influencer or young like that, but Morrissey wrote an autobiography (called Autobiography) that I’m sure is wretchedly self-important

Anything by any of the Bravo-lebrities and the Secret Wives of Mormon Wives. Also — please be sure to use the term “quasi-intellectual masturbation” just because I love it and it fits here 😂 Also — where can I read this when you’re done? 🙏
