Hi all! I tried my best with the title, but I don't even know if that's right either! I'm trying to get back into reading, but I always get stumped about what book to actually read.
I have tried just picking a random one up at a second hand store, a bookshop, a library, but I seem to come across tropes that personally don't interest me – murder, comedic romances, affairs. After that I kind of just stop looking.
As a kid I was a Jacqueline Wilson enjoyer, there weren't many books that captivated me as much as hers. If it helps, I didn't enjoy My Sister Jodie at all.
The one book that stuck with me then and ruined all other books (because I loved it so much) was Kiss. The naive character following the actions of a troubled character, getting herself into scary and unfamiliar scenarios. And of course the other main character and his inner battle with his sexuality, nearly losing his mind. Girls Out Late also kept me on the edge of my seat, because I knew they were making a bad choice but they went along anyway.
I think if HBO's Euphoria was a book, I would pick it up in an instant. Especially if it involved a character who knew nothing about that type of world and they suddenly get sucked into it because of peer pressure.
I'm sorry if this is all over the place or if I seem picky! I have been going crazy trying to find a genre or a match or even a writing style that can keep my attention, I really want to regain my love for reading again.
