I don't know if anticipatory reading slump is a good way to describe it because it's not even really a reading slump. But I LOVE books with high stakes because they get such intense emotions out of me and usually leave a massive impact in my memory. I love the adrenaline rush but at the same time, I get so anxious about the characters and things going wrong due to the high stakes that I stall and sometimes put off continuing the book because the nerves surrounding it get so intense.
I love it and I hate it. I really want to continue reading the book because I'm so invested but I'm so nervous on behalf of the characters I'm scared to pick it up. How do you guys work through this if you have a similar issue?
BTW if it helps at all the book I'm currently having this problem with is Morning Star-I AM SO DAMN NERVOUS RN.

I say this kindly: if you’re experiencing levels of anxiety so high that you can’t read a novel for entertainment, you should be talking to a professional, and not an internet forum.
I completely get what you mean, except instead of putting me into a slump I power through it as fast as I can then have to sit with all those emotions. I’ve never heard anyone else talk about this!!
I feel this too. I think this is the double-edged sword of reading. If a novel becomes this good for you then you find yourself never wanting it to end. But I feel this is the greatest gift a book can give you. The story is not real and neither are the characters but the book has made you feel as though they are. That is something so powerful.
I don’t feel what you’re describing often. But when I do, it’s because of such a great book
