Hi,
Just to provide context. I am going on holiday for a week and need a stack of books to read. I love fantasy and sci fi. But am also happy to read other genres. I am planning to read jannette mccurdy's new book on the holiday.
But I am struggling to figure out what else I should read. I have been in a bit of a reading slump recently with actual books.
Please recommend me anything you have liked lately.
I am also open to reading something light, or a murder mystery.
If you have a favourite book generally, please feel free to reccomend that too!
I love Anne of Green Gables. So I may be giving that a re-read.
I'm looking to seeing what everyone reccomends!

Read The Exorcist for the first time and was bowled over by it. For me it was less a horror novel and more a tale of overcoming deep personal loneliness and Father Karras is now one of my favourite fictional characters ever.
I read *Feed* by MT Anderson back like 20 years ago when I was like 8 and have thought about it all the time since (bc it’s kinda prophetic about our current times). It is a sci fi romance between a kinda toxic guy in a world where phones are implanted in brains. Re-read it this year, and also listened to the audiobook, and I gotta say, the narrator did a stellar job with the material. He embodied the voice perfectly. Best-performed audiobook I’ve ever listened to.
Also read and love *Annie Bot* by Sierra Greer, great from the first page–a sex robot who is owned by a bachelor navigates her emerging humanity and her unbalanced relationship.
Secondhand Curses by Drew Hayes. A rethink of fairy tale tropes with a generous helping of adventure. Fun, thought provoking, and enjoyable.
The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery. The only “adult” novel she wrote. No disrespect to Anne, which is phenomenal, but Blue Castle is better than every Anne book other than Rilla of Ingleside (which you should also read if you haven’t already)
Most recently, Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia; amazing, emotionally complex mystery and scavenger hunt. It creates such a feeling of potential but with an undercurrent of menace that keeps things from being too unrealistically optimistic. It’s kinda hard to explain, but I really liked it.
