There was this game i watched Markiplier play about 10 years back. essentially the story was a scholarly couple during an expeditionary era. The man’s wife goes on an expedition to one of the poles (or some frozen wasteland) she and her expedition go missing and lose contact. He then goes in search of her and it evolves into this psychological mystic-like cosmic horror experience as he delves through horrors to find his wife.
…basically i was wondering if anybody has suggestions that were similar to that because the whole idea of the story of the game has lived in my head since then. Just a cool setting and genre; frozen wasteland, an expedition team, cosmic horrors, the whole shebang is a fantastic combo.

oh man you’re describing like half of dan simmons’ the terror – it’s got the frozen expedition vibes and psychological horror but swap the missing wife for a supernatural creature stalking the crew. for the cosmic horror angle with expeditions, annihilation by jeff vandermeer might scratch that itch too, though it’s more southern reach than arctic wasteland.
