I'm an English tutor for an adult man who speak's almost fluent English (his 2nd language) but who had no formal education beyond 6th grade. I am seeking a book with adult characters but written in very accessible English. He is interested in law enforcement/crime/action or adjacent reading. He will have support as he reads so I'm more interested in the book being engaging for him than a perfect match to reading level. Short chapters or short book would be great too. Fiction or Non-fiction or short story collection. I'm planning to give him a big stack of books to audition to see what resonates with him. Please suggest any authors/titles that I should give him for consideration. I'm hoping to use real literature instead of a canned reading program as much as possible so any suggestions would be appreaciated. Thank you in advance!
