Just blows me away. Half of the allure of buying a physical book is having it in a collection. Yet they still put stickers with adhesive that ruin the cover on ir when taking off. It legitimately should be common sense at this point.
Shout out to Barnes and Noble and Half Priced books who tend to use a better option. (Although ive had a few from HPB get ruined.)

Because they don’t give a shit.
I hate that too, sometimes I use a hairdryer to remove them carefully
Those stickers are cheaper than the nicer ones and once you own the book the book store has no interest in how nice the book is they already got your money
Usually cheaper
honestly this drives me nuts too but i think its just cheap adhesive and they dont really care about collectors
the worst are those silver discount stickers from independent bookshops that leave that gross residue no matter how careful you are removing them. ive started using a hair dryer to warm them up first which helps sometimes but your still rolling the dice
barnes and noble definitely has their game together with those easy peel ones. half price books is hit or miss like you said – sometimes theyre fine sometimes they take half the cover art with them when you peel it off
So you don’t remove them and you can be reminded of their branding forever.
They need busy work for the employees
Just squirt some lighter fluid on the sticker and it comes right off.

I’ve had this issue. Tip: if it’s just adhesive that’s left behind, use an eraser to get rid of it. I’ve gotten adhesive off of books this way many times before. My books looked perfect after.
