Provinces of Night by William Gay is awesome. And everything Faulkner of course, but William Gay if you’re looking for more recent.

Wise Blood, by Flannery O’Connor, is great. Truman Capote’s Other Voices, Other Rooms is pretty unforgettable. Walker Percy’s The Moviegoer is awesome. I wouldn’t just dive into Faulkner if I were you though — he was simultaneously one of the greatest writers ever and one of the absolute worst. You’re liable to find yourself expecting some good out of The Sound and The Fury if you’re not careful. Try The Hamlet, instead, and if you can find it, Old Man. Both of those are stellar.
