I also write and I'm developing this type of character arc in my story. I'm in that part of creation where I'm "doing research" but, ugh, is it just me that find it difficult to find this kind of book?
What I mean by "true villain" would be something among the lines:
– Really does something morally questionable, even if it's justified or not by the circumstances
– Has a true narcissistic or "bad" personality/AH
– There's a real motive for him being hated in the book, not just some gossip or "his family is bad" or "his family is bad" or something like that
Genres: Historical and fantasy would be preferable, but really, I'll accept any genre.
It doesn't need to be romance.
If you want, you can even drop the name of a book where you think this type of arc was done poorly (but I'd really like to read why you think it was bad, if that's okay).
