Hey people!
Basically I'm giving additional lessons to a 15 year old. He's failing his languages. He may drop his third language, but he can't drop English.
He is struggling on all fronts: grammar, spelling, basic conversation and reading comprehension.
He also has such a lack of confidence, that he's scared to try (and fail).
We have approximately a year and a half to get his grade to a passing grade. I'm not expecting miracles, he just needs to pass to graduate.
I truly believe that reading, hopefully something that he enjoys, will serve him the best.
So, I'm looking for a book that under the age level expected for 14 year olds. I'm thinking age 12±. But I don't want it to read like a children's book. Preferably by a British English author.
Also he seems to only want to read war stories.
I don't even know where to begin looking for those types of books.
The only thing that I can think of is War Horse, and maybe the Terible History books.
So, any suggestions?
