The US has so many problems, but to be honest, I don’t understand it and struggle to engage with conversations about who should be doing what, who’s done what bad thing, and let alone how things have changed. I’m also interested in history, and understanding what ideas and cultural movements it was founded on (like, besides what I learned in high school, which skipped over anything more recent than the civil war and only vaguely covered the Korean war.)
I wouldn’t say I have too much brain power and time to delve into many books or very difficult and material, but I do want to make an honest effort. And I feel like if I can get a list of accessible, useful knowledge, it may help others find a voice and gain a better informed avenue for their productive sentiments as well. I understand that a culture of self-educated, self-advocating normal people is necessary for a healthy democracy. And I want to do my part to correct my shortcomings.
Thank you.
