So my friend group loves books and movies, so we have created a book club where we all independently read the book, then meet up once a month to discuss the book and watch the movie together. I am looking for suggestions of books that are around 250 pages or less, and I would love if the book AND movie are both well-done. The club is mixed gender, and we’re all in our late 20s. Any genre is fine, but I do have a reputation to uphold as an AP English teacher. 😉 I love a good classic or high fantasy. I want my first pick to be phenomenal since I won’t get another chance to pick for another 7-8 months!

The only novel I’m considering right now is “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by ZNH because the film and novel are both amazing.

What suggestions do you have? ☺️

The Martian, and the Project Hail Mary movie looks pretty promising

The Princess Bride movie could be paired with either the original book, or As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. The audio of As You Wish is very interesting in that many of the people involved pop in to voice small parts about their perspectives, with Cary Elwes reading the bulk of it.

I enjoyed both versions of The Help

How to Train Your Dragon is an interesting one where the book is pretty different from the movie but both are beloved. David Tennant narrates the audio. Not high literature obviously, but fun if the groups ever needs a break from more serious things.

All Systems Red by Martha Wells and the Murderbot show, you could watch a few episodes in an evening. I really liked the show and adore the books.
