I am 17, but already love to write. I do have a few problems however, biggest one is I kind of SUCK at writing characters. All of them either seem very two dimensional or they all have the exact same personality traits.
I don't know how to write characters so they all have unique, more 3 dimensional personalities. So, I want to know what to do, what kind of characters do you like to read about? What kind of traits give characters more depth. Because I do read a lot, and I do see characters that have more depth, I can recognize when the characters have depth, but mine don't, and they need to.
I thought it might be better to ask readers to see what your interests are… Also I have already asked the writers I know irl but they weren't too helpful tbh.

Characters that contradict themselves are usually the most interesting ones to me. Like someone who’s super confident in public but completely falls apart when they’re alone, or the “tough guy” who secretly writes poetry
What helps me connect with characters is when they have these small weird habits or obsessions that don’t really serve the plot – maybe they always count steps when walking upstairs or they’re weirdly passionate about collecting vintage postcards
