Books while my kid is playing on his own

Often my son likes to play on his own and most of the time I enjoy just watching him be in his own world but sometimes it would be nice to read. Most of the books I read at night aren’t the best for this, currently reading Martyr! and loving it. Also love Demon Copperhead and Homegoing. Any recommendations for books that can easily be started, stopped? Thinking about YA but would love any recommendations!
