So I just started reading/listening to books this year. Thus far I have read Project Hail Mary, the first Bobbiverse book(decent but not my favorite), and the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.
Looking for recommendations on what to read next.
What I love about DCC and Project Hail Mary are that at their core they are about the bond between two characters. Grace and Rocky and Carl and Donut. At least that’s what I take out of them.
I also love the sense of adventure and stakes within the books.
Any recommendations would help!

Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan, is a great, underrated fantasy series you might enjoy, starting with **Theft of Swords (The Crown Conspiracy/Avempartha)**. It follows a ‘rogues-for-hire’ duo in a classic-feeling fantasy world, who take on a simple job and are pulled into an adventure bigger than they ever could have expected. A great cast of characters, fun banter/dialogue, rich world building, with lots of twists and ‘revelations’ along the way. It starts fairly light/low stakes, but soon turns into something quite epic, and if you enjoy it there are a number of excellent prequel series set in the same world that you can check out after Revelations (Legends of the First Empire, Riyria Chronicles, etc.). Really great audiobooks narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds.
Cradle by Will Wight, starting with **Unsouled**, is a fun, fast-paced, ‘progression fantasy’ series, which to me has a lot of shonen/anime vibes (think One Piece, Naruto, etc.), though is also totally its own, original thing. A great cast of characters, creative world building/magic, adventure, and an epic story told over the course of 13 books. Amazing audiobooks as well, narrated by Travis Baldree. In a highly magical world, Lindon is forbidden from studying the ‘sacred arts’ of his clan, and must set out on an adventure to forge his own path.
You might also enjoy Brandon Sanderson’s books. I’d recommend checking out **Warbreaker**, a fun, twisty, standalone, with a great cast of characters, creative world building and magic, and a fast-paced story. It’s a great intro to his massive bibliography!
**Red Rising** by Pierce Brown is a fast-paced, action-packed, dark and twisty, dystopian sci-fi/fantasy revenge story, with excellent audiobooks narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. Complex characters, creative world building, and an epic story, which starts out a bit like ‘The Hunger Games in space’ but quickly grows into its own, original thing.
