She's not a big reader at all but we both used to be as a child. Now this following part might be a bit sensitive for some (skip to second paragraph if needed). She's struggled with mental health and drug and alcohol abuse for the last 6 years. She's currently with a partner who encourages harmful drug use and she's expressed to me wanting to leave him but feeling unable to because she's isolated socially.

Now that the sensitive part is over, she read Im Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy over the summer and loved it. I think part of it was the writing style and how personable/casual it was and how she could relate to the content. If anyone could recommend a book that has a similar writing style and could provide guidance and encouragement for her to better herself and get out of her situation I would greatly appreciate it! Preferably in the YA category and something short as I think it would be less overwhelming.
