As more time pass, it’s absolutely appropriate to review what should be included in the curriculum, in a way that reflects the various experiences of modern students. No one will be hurt from reading Zadie Smith, but they may end up a little smarter.
We also can’t pretend that the traditional texts weren’t chosen with an agenda in mind.
