I'm asking this based on my love for japanese manga so it might not actually have a great western counter part. I've fallen in love recently with japanese manga depicting a supernatural spirit and a human falling in love. The spirit is obsessed with the human and is mysterious, dangerous, and sometimes even a bit cruel. The human has some sort of dark fascination that causes them to obsess over the spirit in turn seeking to unravel their enigmatic existence that defies human logic as they grow closer to it. The love tends to be teasing and forbidden, constantly scraping on the edge of a cliff because their incompatible natures make them self-destructive the closer they become. Ultimately, this love tends to be tragic.
This is a tough ask so I appreciate any attempt.

It may not be dark enough, but *Tryst* by Elswyth Thane has a number of these qualities.
I would lowkey say Way of Kings but. . .not really again. It takes long, is kinda more ambiguous and the romance is not the main
Pen Pal by JT Geissinger.
