Travelling through Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil. I am looking for books telling more about the history/culture of those countries. I live Ken Follet style books with detailed and historically (mostly) accurate depictions. Currently reading Dumas‘ Monte Christo if that helps giving the vibe I’m looking for.
Give me your best suggestions (covering one or multiple of those countries) and thank you in advance.

You could try the Motorcycle Diaries by Ché Guevara, although it’s ofcourse a pretty political book.
Dude you NEED to check out “The Fever Coast Log” by Gordon Chaplin for some serious Central/South America vibes! 🔥 For thailand definitely grab “The Beach” by Alex Garland – its got that perfect mix of culture shock and dark tourism energy youre after. also “In a Sunburned Country” by Bill Bryson will have you cracking up while learning about Australia’s absolutely mental history 😂
