I never read a book in my life and I'm already 25 (I know its bad). I don't care to read something easy, I can take my time if its harder.

What I'm imagining to like is:

I love dark stuff. Not horror but atmospheric/dark worlds, trauma/emtotional pain with romance or lust blended in (but not the main theme). revenge, complex characters.

I love good world building with multiple characters to get attached to.

Doesn't need to be everything I mentioned here, just putting some thoughts out there. I think I'm leaning towards something light fantasy. I don't like the idea of full on science fiction with many planets and species and such.

    1. If you want that 28 Days Later vibe with deep emotional pain and a dark world, The Girl with All the Gifts is a perfect first read

I’d pick Hunger Games. It’s fast paced, fun to read, but also exploring dark themes. It’s very famous (and for a good reason). I read it for the first time as an adult and loved it.

    3. Sounds like Anne Bishop would be a good fit for you, particularly the Black Jewels series. I generally recommend starting with *The Invisible Ring*, as it’s a prequel of sorts and does a much better job of introducing the setting to the reader than the original trilogy did.

Try the Wordsmith and the Warguild by Hugh Cook.

It’s fantasy, has adventure, some romance and is funny and action packed. It feature a Minotaur running a bar, has pirates, wizards, castles and horses.

It’s on Kindle unlimited as well, so quite easy to get and that least you try lots of books to see what you like.
