When I was younger I used to love reading, but at some point I just kind of stopped. I would like to get back into reading but I am struggling to find a good book for me to start with. I’m really into Sci-fi video games, movies, and anime, so I’m looking for something within that space. (Something similar to Metal Gear Solid, Ghost in the Shell, or Mobile Suit Gundam) I really do not want to read a book where there’s a plethora of made up words that only exist in the universe of that book. I appreciate any suggestions!

Neuromancer by William Gibson is probably your best bet here – it’s basically the blueprint for cyberpunk and has that Ghost in the Shell vibe without going overboard on made-up terminology 🔥 The writing is pretty straightforward and it moves fast, plus you’ll recognize a ton of concepts from games and anime that borrowed from it
If you want something a bit more military sci-fi like Metal Gear, maybe try Old Man’s War by John Scalzi – it’s got that tactical combat feel but written in a really accessible way. Both of these are perfect for getting back into reading without feeling like your drowning in fantasy jargon 😂
