I'm starting a book club for people who want to get back into reading or are new to reading. I want the club to be coed in the 20s-30s age range. I'm looking for a good starting book to ease people into it. I personally love classics, but I don't think it's a good start for the book club; plus others might not want to read that.

Ideally it would be entertaining while having enough substance to spark discussion and not have too difficult of a prose. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you want something real short and science fiction is ok, try All Systems Red by Martha Wells

    2. *Annihilation* by Jeff VanderMeer. It’s short at around 200 pages, absolutely LOADED with things to talk about, and just generally one of the most fascinating stories I’ve ever read.

To me it’s a perfect first book for a book club, especially so because of the length to substance ratio. So many possible discussion questions!

    3. Oxford Soju Club by Jinwoo Park could be interesting. It’s the only novel I’ve ever read with North Korean protagonists. It’s about a North Korean spy network and their American adversaries in England.
