Just finished Oliver Harris’ 3 Elliot Kane spy novels A Shadow Intelligence, Ascension, and The Shame Archive and looking for something similar it terms of modern and gritty. Bonus points if also MI6

Just read the first one from that series last month and damn it was good. The way Harris writes those surveillance scenes feels so real and claustrophobic. If you want something with similar vibe I’d recommend Mick Herron’s Slough House series – its about MI5 misfits but has that same modern grittiness and the bureaucratic nightmare side of intelligence work. Also Charles Cumming writes excellent MI6 stuff, especially his Thomas Kell series which starts with A Foreign Country. The tradecraft details in his books are incredibly detailed and you can tell he really knows his stuff about how these agencies actually work.
