I’m looking for a book I read about 14-15 years ago, it’s driving me crazy. The premise had to do with Frankenstein-inspired creation of life using stem cells. It was hard sci fi, like going in detail about stem cell growth and brain organoids. I believe there were religious themes, and for some reason I keep thinking Jacob’s Ladder but I don’t think that’s the title. The protagonist maybe had hallucinations of angels? It was possibly set in Germany, in a small rowhome? I think there were babies in big test tubes?
I do remember vividly that the cover was red with black text. Ugh.
I would also appreciate suggestions of similar books to read!
