As I pursue a history major, Ive spent much of my life for the past few years or so reading mostly what I’m told to or about a period I’m studying. Anytime I do choose I book, it’s usually for a school related purpose. I’m looking to read some good fiction, nothing ridiculously long though. Any ideas? (I’m a big fan of RPG video games and things like that also)

What kind of story are you looking for? Is there any specific type of writing you tend to like?
The Lies of Locke Lamora, by Scott Lynch
If you’re into RPGs, I think the obligatory suggestions are Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, and Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl
Might be a bit long; have you heard of Shogun, by James Clavell?
Lord of the rings. The grace of kings (4-book series but first book can be read as a standalone). It’s a fantasy series based on axial-era Chinese history.
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier (a Confederate soldier defects to head back home)
City of Thieves by David Benioff (a teenager living through WWII in the USSR is sent on a mission)
