Silence of the Lambs is my fav, but love Hannibal and Red Dragon too.
Gruesome and inventive in its killings.
Unique in its villains.
A great protagonist, but it shows you Clarice through the main story, not by adding in her backstory in some side plot you don't care about.
No romance. Nothing supernatural.
Twists but not cheap ones.
Thriller that leans into the horror side.
