The books I see lately in the romance sections just look copy and pasted, with the same plot of quirky mc girl and the cold bad boy. Or some I find that looks decent but with atrocious writing. I also want the female main character to have personality and be relatable.
I don’t like the clickbait quotes that a lot of books use now to get on booktok lol so pls no Hunting Adeline, ACOTAR, or anything like that.
Doesn’t have to be smutty, just some romance to make me kick my feet!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue might work for you – its got this whole immortal woman cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets thing going on and the romance develops really naturally over centuries. Not your typical bad boy situation at all
Also check out Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia if you want something with actual horror elements mixed in. The mc is smart and has real agency instead of just being quirky for the sake of it. Both authors actually know how to write too which seems to be getting rarer these days
