I'd like to read stuff that explores with the experience of not returning/rejecting someone else's feelings.
I'd prefer non-fiction, but fiction is good too as long as it doesn't end with reciprocated feelings.
requirements:
– the topic of unreciprocated romantic feelings must be the main focus
– some intellectual exploration of the phenomenon, I'm not (primarily) looking for something for emotional wallowing
– the 'lover' is a good friend or similar, not a stranger or an acquaintance
– both parties in the situation characterised with empathy
related concepts i also want to explore:
– being idealised/objectified
– being treated as a damsel in distress
– being seen as a manic pixie dream girl
would be a plus, but isn't a must:
– female pov
– focus on gender dynamics
– friends with benefits where one catches feelings and the other doesn't

(Actually, I'd be up for other kinds of media about this too – like films, shows or podcasts or whatever– as long as it meets the requirements above, but i guess that's off topic here hehe)
